The sensational Rs.5.97 crore gold heist at Tanishq jewellery showroom in Punjagutta two days ago has ended in a dramatic twist. This morning, a man surrendered before the police claiming that he had committed the robbery.
Our story is on not why he surrendered but rather on what pushed him into robbery.
Apparently Kiran Kumar a resident of Epur village in Guntur, blamed politicians and their corruption for his theft. Speaking to a news channel, Kiran revealed that his robbery was only to point out the corruption of political leaders. "When I lived in my native, I wanted to contest for the post of president for my village to do some social service. I had even planned to improve my constituency. However, my relatives laughed at me while the society around me didn't give me a chance to realise my dream. Distraught, I had decided to end my life. I attempted suicide twice. However, I stepped back thinking I didn't deserve it," he said adding that he carried out the crime to get attention and become famous.
He wanted a change in the society, public and politics. In his sensational revelation, he said that robbers steal only one night while politicians rob us for years. "I don't see any difference me and them. With one sign, they loot crores in one night and I night, I looted crores. We both are the same. I robbed one night they do it everyday," he asserted.
When asked why robbery for public attention, he reasoned : "Ramayanam was also written by a thief. It changed the country. Why can't a thief change the society?
"I didn't do this crime for my selfish gains. If I had such intentions, I would not surrender. My robbery is a classic example to show the world what happens if a poor man is deprived of his job?" he asked.
This story may have softened people. But the police has their own version for his reason for crime. The cops who carried out preliminary investigations maintain that Kiran robbed the shop as he wanted money to pursue a pilot course.
Police suspects another role in the case
After grilling Kiran for many hours, the police suspect that he committed the robbery with the help of his friend. Police identified his friend as Anand who hails from Epuru of Guntur. The police say that Anand has fled Hyderabad with some stolen jewellery. It is also learnt that it was Anand who actually carried out the heist.
The accused broke the lights as they knew that CC cameras were installed in the shop.
Soon after Commissioner suspected the role of Anand, the Hyderabad police with the help of Guntur cops took into custody Anand's brother Sudheer to get more details in the case.
However, the villagers protested the police move saying Sudheer was innocent.
