Hyderabad: Hemanth who is facing allegations of involvement in the murder of TCS software engineer Singavarapu Esther Anuhya on Tuesday maintained that they were just friends and that he had nothing to do with her killing in Mumbai.

In an interview to The Hans India, Hemanth denied reports that he had travelled with her from Vijayawada to Mumbai on January 4.

He said their last meeting was at 1.45 pm on January 4 in Secunderabad Railway Station. Hemanth disputed police claims that he had travelled in the train with Anuhya.

‘This could be verified from the CCTV footage. On the same evening I went to Shirdi in another train (producing proof of travelling by the Shirdi Express). I had Baba’s darshan the next day and returned in the evening.’

However, the youngster asserted that he had met police in Mumbai at the instance of her relatives. ‘Police questioned me for six hours spread over two days. I told them whatever I knew and police were satisfied with my replies’.

Hemanth stated that he and Anuhya had telephonic conversation after she left for Mumbai. Later there was no conversation with her. He had noticed that she was pretty depressed. ‘I came to know of the gruesome incident on January 6’.

He and Anuhya were classmates in B. Tech at JNTU, Kakinada. She had been working in Mumbai for about 18 months and had many friends there. He was not aware of their details. ‘We both used to discuss over telephone our issues and not other topics’. He admitted discussing her murder case with Anuhya’s family members. ‘They have no information about the killing. They also don’t suspect me’, he claimed.
