New Delhi: The Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana on Thursday recommended key changes in the Bill to placate the Seemandhra MPs, who were determined to disrupt the proceedings of the House, unless their demands were met. After the nod by the Union Cabinet that is scheduled to meet on Friday evening, the Centre will bring the Bill to the Lok Sabha next week, in the hope that the passage of the Bill will not be blocked by the agitated MPs.

The Telangana Bill was originally planned to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha. However, since the Bill has financial implications, it was felt that it should be introduced in the Lok Sabha.

At the GoM meeting, the key issues of Seemandhra were discussed, with the government going out of the way to reach out to the agitated MPs of the residuary State. Sources stated that besides the financial package, the Centre would fully fund the new capital of Seemandhra. It was learnt that though the ministers discussed the major demand of the Seemandhra MPs of according Union Territory status for 10 years to Hyderabad, they finally felt that it would not be feasible as Telangana would then object to it.

Sources stated that the total revenue of both the regions would be taken into account and based on it, a financial package would be worked out by the 14thFinance Commission. After receiving its recommendations, the Centre would take a decision on it.
