New Delhi: Former APCC President D Srinivas on Monday called on Congress President Sonia Gandhi and later appealed to all the political parties to extend support to the Telangana Bill in Parliament.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Srinivas said that all the major political parties had pledged to support Telangana. Time has come for these political parties to live up to their word and support the passage of the Telangana Bill in Parliament.
He pointed out that the pressure being mounted by the leaders of the Seemandhra regions is unfair and unfortunate. Those opposing the Telangana Bill should see facts for themselves. These were all the very same leaders, who, in the past, had agreed to abide by the decision to be taken by the Congress High Command. Living up to their word, all these parties should support the creation of Telangana, he said.
The Seemandhra leaders have a right to claim a fair package from the Centre, he said. The Centre has also been forthcoming on giving a financial package for the Seemandhra region. In this regard, even the Telangana leaders will come forward to support their just demands, he said.
Srinivas said the Congress and TRS enjoy a great relationship and no can divide them. Sometimes we may get angry with each other but that is a temporary phase. “We are inseparable,” he said.
Srinivas also participated in the TJAC dharna at Andhra Bhavan to oppose the decision of the government to merge certain villages under Bhadrachalam division with the residuary state. He said the demand of the TJAC was justified and he would draw the attention of the party high command towards the issue.
The former PCC president replying to a question said that he has no doubts about the sincerity of the BJP in regard to the T bill. He said the BJP would certainly pass the bill in both the houses and will live up to the expectations of the people of Telangana.
Thanking the President Pranab Mukherjee for clearing the bill, Srinivas said at least now the Seemandhra leaders should realise that all was over and cooperate in the passing of the bill. If they still continue to talk of united Andhra it would be construed as an undemocratic act. The Congress high command is ready to help the residuary state in all possible ways and the leaders should try to extract maximum benefits from the centre, he added.
