Sangareddy Municipal Elections: A Matter of Prestige For PartiesSangareddy: Elections to the Sangareddy municipality in Medak district have become a prestige issue for all parties. Leaders such as Sangareddy MLA Thoorpu Jayaprakash Reddy (Jagga Reddy), TRS leader and former MLC R Satyanarayana, TRS constituency in-charge Chinta Prabhakar and those from the TDP and the BJP are vying with each other to maintain their hold over the constituency.

It is alleged that though the Sangareddy municipality was formed in 1956, the leaders who held the post of municipal chairman did not take any steps to resolve people’s problems. The town has been facing acute water crisis though Manjeera Dam is located nearby. Old Sangareddy, Ram Mandir, Shanti Nagar, Veerabhadra Nagar Colony and other slum areas do not have proper roads and drainage system. Recently, Jagga Reddy taken initiative in getting Rs 3 crore sanctioned for CC roads and work has already begun.

As the constituency has been reserved for women (general), the leaders brought their relatives into the fray. Minority voters are in large numbers in this constituency and hence MIM is making efforts to win some seats. Asaduddin Owaisi has already campaigned in the town.
