Hyderabad: Mynampally Hanumantha Rao, Telugu Desam district president and MLA from Medak, announced his intention to resign from the party and put in his papers soon after.
The resignation was a bitter one with him claiming on a social media networking site (soon after his official letter was submitted) that his party made a “miscalculation” and gave in to “pressure by another party” (referring to BJP). The politico had to forego his party ticket in Malkajgiri constituency. However, he is now set to contest as an independent candidate.
The TDP-BJP alliance seems to have turned into an unpleasant reality to Rao. He affirmed, “I won’t comment on Chandrababu Naidu. I leave it to his discretion to realize what is wrong. TDP is not my enemy. But I want to assert that I can’t let unqualified leaders rule my people.”
Firstly, the move has disappointed many political supporters of TDP as well as him who thought he was being impatient.
According to political analysts, the strategy implemented by Hanumantha Rao boomeranged on the party instead of hitting his opponents hard. Meawhile, the TRS ridiculed the MLA's announcement, asking whether it was party's decision or a personal one.
During last week, Mr. Hanumantha Rao announced that he would be submitting his resignation to the Speaker with an intention to pit a family member of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Telangana.
This announcement grabbed the attention of political circles in the region and received adverse criticism from staunch supporters of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). He, literally, threw an open challenge to TRS MLA from Siddipet T. Hairsh Rao.
Mr. Hanumantha Rao did not change his stand even after much pressure from the party workers in the district and submitted his letter to Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy at Renigunta on Sunday. After submitting his papers to the Speaker, everyone thought that Mynampally would stick to his challenge and it would be difficult for the TRS to explain and convince the people about non-allocation of seats to the family members of those who sacrificed their lives.
