Hyderabad: Bapulapadu Vies for AP CapitalHyderabad: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is learnt to be favouring Bapulapadu, a mandal headquarter in Krishna district, as the new capital city for the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh. According to party sources, the TDP wants to construct the new capital within two-and-half-a-years. Naidu is also contemplating to name the new capital city after the party founder-president, N T Rama Rao. He is said to have asked some experts to make a thorough study of the area and prepare a detailed report. The team has already conducted a survey of the area and is understood to have prepared the report.

The advantage of Bapulapadu mandal, sources say is that it has degraded forest area of over 73,000 acres which can be denotified to take up construction activity. It is centrally located and is well connected by road, rail and air. In order to placate the people of Rayalaseema who have been demanding that the capital city be located at Kurnool, Naidu may announce some special schemes for the region in the first budget itself. The possibility of making a BC from Rayalaseema as a Deputy Chief Minister is also not being ruled out. Similarly, he may announce that an IIT would be set up at Tirupati.

It is reliably learnt that Naidu may not function from the Secretariat in Hyderabad. He wants that all officials and ministers should work from Seemandhra and ensure that the capital city gets ready within the scheduled time. He has already announced that he would be spending most of his time – at least three to four days a week – in Seemandhra and his house in Hyderabad can double as the camp office when he is in Hyderabad.

Bapulapadu mandal is about 20-25 km from Hanuman Junction on NH 16 (Chennai - Kolkata) and Nujiveedu - Machilipatnam State Highway. It is located 62 km towards North from District headquarters Machilipatnam. It is about 324 km from Hyderabad. Bapulapadu is on the borders of West Godavari and Krishna districts.
