Hyderabad: Telangana Formation Day celebrations were held with customary pomp and gaiety at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad here on Monday.

The first Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao, unfurled the national flag and later received the guard of honour and went round parade ground in a jeep.

KCR then reviewed colorful parade by 11 marching contingents comprising different battalions of special protection force, home guards, brass band among others.

The first contingent to make way was ‘Mamunuru Police Battalion’ from Khammam district followed by Seventh Battalion, Dichpally, Nizamabad district and police battalions from Nalgonda, Manchiryal and Hyderabad.

Later, special protection force, home guards, brass band, pipe band teams followed. The parade culminated with the colourful display by mounted police on top of decorated horses. The Chief Minister handed winner and consolation prizes to best marching contingents.

The 13th battalion police from Manchiryal in Adilabad district bagged the best marching contingent while the runner-up position went to fourth battalion from Warangal district.

Meanwhile, large number of people turned up at the Parade Ground to witness the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations. The city police diverted traffic from morning till 12 noon on the Parade Ground stretch in view of the celebrations.
