New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to implement all the assurances for Andhra Pradesh built into the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

In her letter of June 2, which was released to the media by former APCC Campaign Committee Chairman K Chiranjeevi on Tuesday, stated, “As you are aware, the Act contains various investments and other commitments by the Government of India in the successor state of Andhra Pradesh. T then Prime Minister and the then Home Minister had also made certain further commitments on the floor of the Rajya Sabha on February 20, 2014, on which the Union Cabinet took certain decisions.”

Sonia Gandhi said the groundwork for many of them like in the area of water resources, grant of Special Category Status and facilitating the Polavaram Project had already been laid by the erstwhile UPA Government. “I do hope that your administration will build on what we had accomplished and take them forward,” she said. As president of the Congress, whose Coalition Government drafted the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and got it passed through Parliament, Sonia Gandhi said, “I assure you of our cooperation in ensuring that the commitments made to the people of the successor State of Andhra Pradesh are fulfilled both in letter and spirit.”
