Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh is targeting to attract about $7 billion investments by 2020 as part of its diversified strategy to establish Information Technology and Electronic manufacturing sectors across the state.

Speaking at the ICT industry meet here on Monday, IT Advisor to the AP government J Satyanarayana said, the next round of expansion would be in the area of electronic manufacturing.

“There is a huge demand-supply gap, which is an opportunity to be addressed by the state and we are planning to come out with 17 policies to address IT and Electronic sectors,” Satyanarayana said. There will be six e-government policies, three electronic manufacturing, three for Information Technology and five more will be support areas, he added.

"We are aiming at achieving 5 per cent in the national software export and take Gigabyte to all the villages in the state by 2020," he said.

Addressing the meeting, ITE&C Minister P Raghunath Reddy assured them to provide required infrastructure.

“We have just 3 per cent IT exports while Hyderabad accounts for 97 per cent. But we are committed to develop all the major cities in state including Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati and Anantapur,” the minister said.

J A Chowdhary, Chairman, Industry Development Forum, which is promoted to help the state government to attract industries, said that there was immense interest from small and medium IT and ITeS firms to establish shops in the state. However, most of them suggested that there is a need for quality manpower, which is lacking across the country.

“It is time for the government to establish ‘Schools of Excellence’ in order to improve the quality of the engineers the state is producing,” Chowdhary said.

Earlier, welcoming the industrialists, the AP’s IT secretary, Sanjay Jaju said, the state government was considering creating Rs 100 crore innovation fund in the next 60 days.

The state is drawing a road map to create infrastructure and ecosystem through IT investment regions (ITIRs), mega IT hubs and electronics manufacturing clusters (EMCs) within two months from now, he said.

Stating that the government would create IT hubs in Guntur and Anantapur besides an ITIR and an EMC in Vizag and one EMC in Tirupathi on fast track, Jaju said they would implement subsidy and other incentives on bandwidth for connectivity for KPOs and BPOs.

The meeting was attended by about 200 representatives from IT/ITeS industry including IT majors like Google, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Cyient, Tech Mahindra, Honeywell, Accenture and others.
