SC rejects proposal of engg colleges
Supreme Court Rejects Proposal of Engineering Colleges. The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the academic schedule submitted by the managements of 174 private engineering colleges in Telangana.

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the academic schedule submitted by the managements of 174 private engineering colleges in Telangana. The college managements had submitted the academic schedule on the direction of the apex court so that it could decide whether or not to allow the second round of EAMCET counselling. The college managements told the Supreme Court that they can complete the mandated 545 hours of teaching for the first semester by January 15 as required by the AICTE (All-India Council for Technical Education).
The college managements said they would increase the hours of instruction per day to 7.5 hours so that the syllabus was finished in time, for the first semester examinations in January. As per the AICTE norms every college should have instruction hours of 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday and for 4 hours on Saturday.
The apex court did not agree with the above academic schedule, saying that it may prove counter-productive and the colleges should comply with the AICTE norms under all circumstances.
At the same time, the court said it was not in favour of increasing the number of working days for completing the total hours of instruction. The court said in the past it had allowed counselling to be extended up to August 31 following the bifurcation of the state.
The court adjourned further hearing of the petition to Wednesday.
