Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said a technical committee from the Union Health department would visit the land earmarked for setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), at Mangalagiri in Guntur district, to give its nod for the construction of the premier health institute there.

“The technical committee will inspect the site of land housing TB sanatorium, where the AIIMS is being proposed, soon after the completion of the ongoing session of the Parliament,” he said. Srinivas on Monday called on the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda in Delhi. According to a press release, during the meeting the AP Health Minister requested Nadda to give necessary clearances to set up the AIIMS at Mangalagiri.

Later, he told reporters that the Centre had approved the proposed site for AIIMS at Mangalagiri and works on the prestigious project would begin very shortly. According to him, an amount of Rs 1,500 crore would be spent on the construction of this proposed 500-bed super-speciality hospital. The Centre has already allocated Rs 125 crore to begin initial works of the construction of the hospital.
