Vijayawada: The capital region of Thulluru, Tadepalli and Mangalagiri mandals are likely to be brought under the control of Vijayawada Police Commissionerate . The State government has almost cleared the proposal, it is learnt reliably. The State government proposed to expand the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate to three mandals after declaring Vijayawada as part of the capital region. In fact, the government posted A B Venkateswara Rao as police commissioner as he holds the rank of Additional Director General of Police.

After assuming charge, Venkateswara Rao sent a proposal seeking merger of the Guntur urban police district with the Vijayawada Commissionerate for better coordination in the capital region. However, the Guntur police too sent another proposal seeking upgradation of Guntur as police commissionerate. The Guntur police also proposed creation of police division with Thulluru as headquarters and merger of Amaravathi and Tadikonda police stations with Thulluru.

Newly- opened police outpost at Thulluru and Mandam villages

Even as the proposals are being considered by the government, the police have posted pickets and outposts at different villages keeping in view the movement of realtors and the suspected land mafia. The police have put up several hoardings, cautioning people in all the 29 villages to beware of anti-social elements. A police out post was opened at Mandadam besides posting additional constables for patrolling in the area.

In the light of miscreants setting on fire the standing crops in six villages on Monday, the State government is understood to have speeded up the process and attach Thulluru, Tadepalli and Mangalagiri police stations with the Vijayawada Commissionerate. Director General of Police J V Ramudu and the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu are highly appreciative of Vijayawada police upholding law and order.
