Eluru: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the lift irrigation scheme across River Godavari at Pattiseema village would be inaugurated on August 15. Speaking to media persons at Itukalakota on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that the Rs 1,300-crore lift irrigation scheme was aimed at diverting flood waters of River Godavari to Rayalaseema. “Works are going on at a war footing at Pattiseema. Water will be released to right canal.

I will visit Pattiseema again on July 1 and 30 to inspect works. Closed circuit cameras will be arranged at the project site to closely monitor and speed up the works. I myself will monitor the progress of works from my residence,” he said. The Chief Minister refused to comment on Palamuru project on River Krishna taken up by the Telangana government.

Stating that better compensation would be offered to farmers for land acquired for Polavaram project, Naidu said land acquisition cases pending in courts would be settled soon and urged the farmers to give their land for projects. He blamed the previous government for collapse of contractor system.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to study the feasibility of diverting floodwater of Ramileru, Budameru, and other rivulets into Godavari right canal. Accusing the opposition leaders of trying to obstruct development with their unnecessary criticism, Naidu said completion of Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme would be a fitting answer to them.

The Polavaram project would be completed within four years at any cost, he said. The Chief Minister did an aerial survey of Polavaram and Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme works before landing at Pattiseema helipad. He was two-and-a-half hours behind the schedule.

Later, the Chief Minister went to Pattiseema project site and visited the photo exhibition at the site before inspecting the works. Afterwards, he reached Itikalakota, where Godavari right canal and Pattiseema lift irrigation join. The area being known for Naxal activity, tight security arrangements were made.

The CM was received by Collector K Bhaskar, Joint Collector P Koteswara Rao, SP Bhaskar Bhushan, Minister P Sujatha, Government Whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar and others.
