Kurnool: Faced with adverse drought-like conditions, a farmer had to sell off his cattle. He had incurred a debt of Rs 1.5 lakh in an effort to save his crop, which eventually withered away. With rain god shown mercy since last week, hopes of Mallayya, a farmer of Arikera village, started to sprout.
The rain had made his land fertile where his borewell failed him for the last season. With inflows from upstream reaching Tungabhadra, Mallaya is all prepared to raise a new crop Alas! He has no cattle to prepare his fields to raise groundnut in Alluru mandal. Not to lose this God-sent, he along with his school-going son picked up the plough to till his fields.
His wife and daughter are helping him in sowing. Hope this crop brings him enough rewards to buy cattle to help him in his farming and dairy activity. The film-like scene of the family members sweating out in the field has touched the emotional chord of every passersby.
