Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday praised the role of engineers in nation building. Speaking at the Engineers Day celebrations, Naidu said that the State government could complete the prestigious Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme in a record time of five months and five days, linking Godavari river with Krishna river thanks to the efforts and hardwork of engineers.

The Chief Minister said he was able to fulfill the long-pending dream of the people of linking rivers only because of the active participation of engineers. The linking of Godavari and Krishna rivers is being made a reality with Godavari water joining Krishna water at Ibrahimpatnam on Wednesday, he said and tried to give the credit to the engineers who had made the dream come true.

Stating that construction of Polavaram project would take four to five years, the Chief Minister said that the government had taken up Pattiseema to bring water to Krishna before Polavaram is completed. He said he would go for more such projects to provide sufficient water for irrigation and industrial needs.

He said he had plans to make the State drought-free and it was possible only with inter-linking of rivers and water conservation. The Chief Minister said that he had taken up building of Amaravati as the world-class capital and wanted the engineers to help him in building the new capital that would reflect the pride of Telugu people.Earlier, the Chief Minister garlanded the portrait of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
