Members of Jain community observed ‘Paryushan Maha Parva' celebrated annually for self-purification by fasting and performing pujas at the Mahavir Temple at One-town on Monday.

Jain Acharya Param Pujya Ajith Shetan Suriji said that Paryushan is an eight-day fasting period described as purification process. The Jainism followers on the occasion will hope to seek forgiveness for their sins, try to forgive those who have misunderstood them and at the same time the followers will aim for spiritual goals.

“The eight-day rituals ended on the Chavithi Day. In these fasting days the Jain community people mainly focus on donating for the welfare of poor people, animals and temples. It is also a period to shun comforts of life,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jain followers in the city also participated in the traditional rituals at Marwadi temple, on the occasion of thanking the god for giving strength to perform.
