The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday launched the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle’s XL variant (PSLV-XL) at 10 AM successfully at Sriharikotta Space Station.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday launched the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle’s XL variant (PSLV-XL) at 10 AM successfully at Sriharikotta Space Station. The 50 hour countdown for the satellite to be launched began on Saturday at 10 AM.


With a fully assembled space observatory satellite designed by India, Astrosat, the PSLV-C30 also carries two satellites designed by Indonesia and Canada apart from four satellites of USA.
The rocket, 22 minutes after the take off launched Astrosat into orbit at an altitude of 650 km above the earth making India one of the few countries such as US, Japan, Russia and Europe to have their own space observatory satellite. Six other satellites followed and were put into orbit completing the mission in over 25 minutes.

The Rs 180-crore Astrosat that has a life span estimated around five years will carry out multi-wavelength observations including optical radiation, X-rays, ultraviolet and gamma rays.
