Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu suggested for inter-party forum for better functioning of the legislative bodies in the country.

In his inaugural address at the two-day 17th All India Whips Conference here on Tuesday, Venkaiah said crucial time was being wasted in both Parliament and Assemblies which is being watched live, by the people across the country. There are Assemblies which functioned less than few weeks due to ruckus and other disturbances, he pointed out.

Highlighting the role of the chief whips and whips, the Union Minister said it was time all the political parties came together and formed a forum for smooth proceedings in the legislative bodies. “The Parliament should work for at least 100 days and Assemblies 75 days,’’ Venkaiah told the whips present at the meeting.

Highlighting the importance of the Visakhapatnam, Naidu said the city was slated to attain smart status with aid from US and would be hosting global investors meet and International Fleet Review in January and February, next year.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who was the chief guest at the inaugural session, said people were the best judges in assessing the working of the Assemblies and Parliament and it was the primary responsibility of the whips to ensure the business was not affected.

“Ours is the biggest democracy in the world and most vibrant and the proceedings in the legislative houses have wider impact on the society,” the Chief Minister said. Uninterrupted proceedings in the Parliament and Assemblies was ­highly essential, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is talking about Digital India and Make in India and seven missions were launched in AP to achieve these goals, Naidu said.

Regarding the development of the State, he said AP survived the bifurcation impact and achieved good growth in the last 15 months. The State would become numero uno in the country by 2029 and a prominent State in the world by 2050, he added.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the development the city is going to achieve in the ensuing years. Chairman of the AP Legislative Council A Chakrapani, and Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao also spoke on the occasion and stressed the role of whips.

In view of recent developments in the banking system and as the railway transactions are always in coordination with banking sector, it has been decided that on 2nd and 4th Saturdays,

Sundays and on bank holidays, all the non-rail head passenger reservation centres/ satellite reservation offices at MVP Colony, Naval Base, Gajuwaka and Simhachalam temple will remain closed.
