Establishing efforts towards encouraging youth to be swadeshi, October 2 was celebrated as ‘Khadi Day’ at People’s Plaza inHyderabad on Friday. The event, organised by Avasyu Foundation marks the first time Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated as Khadi Day.

Organisers and volunteers unveiled the longest flag in Asia measuring 4.85 km, which was confirmed by the Asia Book of Records. The flag was prepared by handloom workers from Sircilla, Karimnagar District. School and college students participated in holding the tricolour, which was launched by Vice Chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, New Delhi, Shekar Rao Perala.

Participants formed a human chain from People’s Plaza to Marriot Hotel. An ambulance was stationed at every kilometer for safety precautions. In addition, students presented dances, songs and skits. Speaking about values of the material, founder and president of Avasyu Foundation, Surjith Joradan said, “5000 people participated in this event.

Our motto is to follow swadeshi culture. I would like to thank each other everyone who have supported us.” Central and state ministers including Deputy Chairman of state Bandaru Dattatreya, MLAs Rama Chander Rao and Chinthala Ramachandra Reddy and others participated.
