Multix - India’s first personal vehicle was launched in Andhra Pradesh recently. The result of a joint collaboration between Eicher Motors Ltd, makers of the iconic Royal Enfield motorcycles and Polaris Industries Inc. the unique vehicle could well be on its way to capture the imagination of Andhra Pradesh’s ever burgeoning businessmen for its utility and sturdiness. Speaking exclusively, Radhesh Verma, CEO elaborates further on the vehicle and his aspirations.

What guided the choice of Andhra Pradesh as the state for your launch?

Independent businessmen, traders and agricultural entrepreneurs in Andhra Pradesh are evolving and are open to looking at new means and new technology to advance their businesses. Multix is a differentiated automotive solution aimed at unlocking potential and opening a world of new opportunities. Multix, will boost the income of the independent businessmen. And will also provide a mobility solution to them at an affordable running cost thereby giving him a work – life balance.

You have been focussing on the term ‘independent businessmen’; can you elaborate on the term?

Multix is the child not only of innovative engineering, but also the net result of many surveys that were carried out all over Tamil Nadu. We sought the demands from countless people with regard to their transportation issues and were thus also exposed to the new generation of businessmen like farmers’ sons and mid-level businessmen requiring transporters for their activities.

Our survey shows this segment comprises 5.8 crores people and Multix is the result of their aspirations and expectations. Not a regular job but doing a decent business of his own, a five-seater car that instantly metamorphoses into a spacious transport vehicle with added benefit of as power generation, sturdiness and good looks extends unfathomable advantages to such end user.

Why Multix? Who would you consider your nearest competitors?

Multix has several USPs. In a nutshell they would have to be the sturdy tubular structure, interesting innovative use of space resulting in instantaneous transformation suiting one requirement to another, an ability to transverse not only the roughest of roads or terrains as also easy drive on city roads, not to forget the ability to generate 3 KW of power that can be utilised to run pumps, drills and equipment’s for small businesses.

Thus, Multix is not one vehicle but many such in one. I would like to point out that Eicher Polaris is not competing with anyone in particular but is unique in itself as it believes in segment creation and in that Multix at the moment stands unparalleled. We would not be replacing any segment but will invariably be creating our own niche to deal with and satisfy.

In the light of this plan of operations would it be possible to assume that future expansion can happen in this region?

We have enviable manufacturing facility at Jaipur. At the moment, we are in a position to manufacture 60,000 units each year and would be expanding the capacity to 1,20,000 units in a very short time. But with the sort of curiosity that Multix has begun to generate we are hopeful that interest would materialise into orders and in that scenario we would of course be considering the region for future expansion.

At what price Multix will be available in Andhra Pradesh?

Purpose-built, specially designed and powered by a reliable diesel engine, Multix will be available at a starting at a price of Rs. 2,89,100/- (ex – showroom Vijaywada)
