Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana flagged off ‘Poster Free Vijayawada Rally’ at Police Control Room on Thursday. As part of Swachh Andhra Pradesh campaign organised by the VMC, in association with MARGAM, the Municipal Administration Minister along with MLA Gadde Rammohan, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Municipal Commissioners G Veerapandian (Vijayawada), C Anuradha (Guntur) and other officials removed the posters pasted on the walls at public places.
Speaking on the occasion, Narayana said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched Swachh Andhra campaign on October 2 to promote hygiene in all municipalities in the State. Construction of individual toilets would be promoted in a big way to end open defecation. Steps would also be taken to ensure that all households in the city get individual toilets by March 2019. Focus would be laid on solid waste management and generation of energy from trash.
Sewage treatment plants would also be set up to curb pollution. People should extend their total support to the VMC in its endeavour to make Vijayawada a Poster Free City, he said. VMC Chief Engineer MA Shukur, Chief Medical Officer Dr M Gopi Naik, city planner Pradeep, Mangalagiri Municipal Commissioner Ranga Rao and other officials also took part in the drive.
