The Montfort Social Institute (MSI) on Sunday distributed solar lights to the slum dwellers at Autonagar. The slum, located between the APIIC Colony and the telephone exchange, has dwellers living for more than three decades, most of them working in Autonagar.

Migrated from different States, mostly from Tamil Nadu, they work in industries and other establishments, while a few have taken into rag picking. The MSI State coordinator, Maria Soosai, regional coordinator Sk Aliash, handed over the solar lights to the dwellers.

“The solar lights would now replace the traditional kerosene lamps as they neither have street lights nor domestic electricity connection,” shared Maria Soosai. The MSI volunteers, Kamala and Deepthi were also present at the event.
