Amaravati: A day after Dasara, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has announced a steep hike of 10 per cent in charges of inter-state buses which would be implemented from Friday midnight.

According to the new tariff, there would be 10 percent hike in the rates of Deluxe and Luxury buses. This would mean that the passengers going from Hyderabad to Vijayawada by a luxury bus will have to pay Rs 235 as against Rs 213. In case of Deluxe bus the new rates would be Rs 264 instead of Rs 240. In case of Super Luxury the new charges will be Rs 303 instead of the present Rs 283.

The hike in tariff for Palle Velugu buses would be 3 paise per kilometre. For Express and Deluxe services it would be 8 paise. For Super Luxury, Garuda and Vennela buses the hike would be 9 paise per km.

Interestingly, before Dasara when the APSRTC came up with the proposal to hike the tariff, Finance Minister Y Rama Krishnudu rejected the proposal and said that the government would not allow to put burden on passengers and the (APSRTC) management has to go for other options.

He further declared to reimburse Rs 100 crore in lieu of the concessions provided to various sections of the passengers and said that the state government would stand as a guarantor to get Rs 200 crore loan for the APSRTC, according to the release.
