A tribute to the great masters in multimedia, featuring a Bharatanatyam and Carnatic vocal concert by Yuva Kala Bharathi, Smitha Madhav including programs by her students in both these art forms was presented at Ravindra Bharathi on Sunday.

Dance students performingThe packed hall witnessed Carnatic music by the students to start off. This contained an invocation to Ganesha. The Bharatanatyam recital by Smitha which followed was truly spectacular.

Vibrant red was the costume to match her dazzling footwork. Matchless grace was displayed with delicate abhinaya to bring out the lyrics of Adi Sankaracharya's "Bhaja Govindam" in a crystal clear recording. A song on Dakshinamurthy, a form of lord Shiva was brilliantly rendered.

The dance students presented the Jayadeva Ashtapadi on the Dasavatarams, "Pralaya Payodhi Jale"; inspired choreography marked this display of the lord’s incarnations. The students excelled themselves in showcasing the skills imbibed from their young but talented guru. Smitha finished with a short vocal concert.

She expressed her gratitude to her Bharatanatyam Guru Rajeswari Sainath and her gurus in carnatic music; she explained that she was inspired by the day marking the anniversary of her Arangetram. Swami Paripoornananda Saraswathi and the governor graced the occasion.
