Valmiki Jayanti celebrated. The birth anniversary of Valmiki, the sage who wrote the great Indian epic Srimad Ramayanam in Sanskrit, was observed with traditional fervor at Valmiki Bhavan in the city on Tuesday.

The birth anniversary of Valmiki, the sage who wrote the great Indian epic Srimad Ramayanam in Sanskrit, was observed with traditional fervor at Valmiki Bhavan in the city on Tuesday. Central Legislator Bonda Umamaheswara Rao participated in the celebrations and garlanded the idol of Valmiki Maharshi.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Valmiki was the first person to introduce the exemplary character of Indian culture to the rest of the world. Ramayana was not just a story but the history of the country. The society should emulate the values that Maharshi Valmiki advocated through Ramayana. He said that in some parts of the State people belonging to Valimiki and Boya community were treated as outcasts.

The State Government would immediately hold discussions with Center to include Valmiki and Boya castes in Scheduled Tribes (ST) list in the State. Measures will also be taken by the State Government in providing bank loans and housing facilities for the welfare of Valmiki and Boya communities, he said.

Valmiki Sangham president Ch Hanumantha Rao stressed the need for including them in to Scheduled Tribe community for their better livelihood. More funds should be devoted by the State government to the welfare of the community in the next State budget, he urged.

Deputy Mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana Rao, BC Study Circle director Khusboo Kotari, Division No 30 Corporator D Kanakadurga and people of Valimiki and Boya community also participated in the celebrations.
