With the Transport department made it mandatory for the two wheeler motorists to wear protective gear while on roads, there was brisk activity noticed at the helmet stalls.

With the deadline is fast approaching, motorists are making it convenient to stop by an outlet to select one of their choice and budget. Meanwhile, the branded showrooms that sell helmets have also received ordered stock for both men and women variants. They start at a price of Rs 1800 and go up to Rs 5000. On the footpaths and across the pavements, there are a few sellers who sold helmets for a competitively lesser price.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act (MV) Act 120, every motorist should wear a helmet if riding a two wheeler and seat belt, if driving a car. With helmet and seat belts put on, there are lesser chances to fall prey to accidents. With concern over the increasing number of accidents and fatal injuries to the involved motorists, the department has finally decided to implement strict rule on helmet usage from November 1st.

The department has been going all out to promote the usage of helmet and is sensitizing people on roads near busy junctions and at public places like theaters, malls etc. Though initially the rule was to be implemented from July, it was pushed to September. Finally, the department is positively bucked up to implement the rule from Sunday on wards.

In a recent interaction with the media, the Commissioner of the department also mentioned that they would go along to levy penalty for the violators of the rule and threatened to seize their license if found repeating the violation. Traffic cops were also geared up to take action on the motorists who stay away from protection gears. Cases will be booked against motorists CMV rule 138 (3) section, who fail to comply with the precautions while driving on roads.
