During an interaction with the CityTAB, the world famous DJ talks about his upcoming event, Suburn City Festivals, about Hyderabad, his wide array of collaborators and his music. “Turn Down For What” was nominated for a Grammy.
Sunburn is back with a massive festival planned for various cities starting November 12 and adding to the list, Hyderabad will play host to DJ Snake on November 14
DJ Snake is one of the most famous producers in dance music today, with his tracks and collaborations such as “Turn Down For What” (with Lil Jon), “Get Low” (with Dillon Francis), “You Know You Like It” (with Aluna George), “Lean On” (with Major Lazer and MO, shot in India, where DJ Snake, seemed quite fluid with some desi moves himself), amongst others becoming some of the biggest hits all over. The India tour as well as the revelation that he will be performing in Hyderabad is the cherry on the cake.
During an interaction with the CityTAB, the world famous DJ talks about his upcoming event, Suburn City Festivals, about Hyderabad, his wide array of collaborators and his music. “Turn Down For What” was nominated for a Grammy. How has 2015 been so far and what’s in store for the coming year?
Being nominated for the Grammy is always a huge deal! “Lean On” has been the highlight of this summer, of course. Top of the charts for 20 weeks right on and then my mix with Bipolar Sunshine is a bit of an unusual one. As of now, I am very excited to tour India with Sunburn.
The list of artistes you’ve worked with is quite eclectic. What do you have to say? I have worked with the best and it’s been overwhelming to how I could always add on to their music and skills.
How does it feel coming to India, particularly Hyderabad? I am looking forward to having a really good time here. From what I have heard from other DJs, who have visited Hyderabad, they have had a fabulous time. The energy and the crowd are very responsive and love the music. So this just makes it very exciting for me.
When did you start dabbling in music? What made you to get into making music? There's a classic movie in France called ‘La Haine’, there is a scene in the movie where DJ Cut Killer is one of the biggest European DJ's in the film. And he's scratching like crazy. I was 14 years old when I saw that and I thought, "That's what I want to do.
I used to work at one of Paris’ most famous record stores.” We’d have the most famous DJs and producers pass by every day, so one day I decided to take my chance and I hooked up with one of Europe’s best hip hop DJ, who taught me the ins and outs of the music game. That’s basically how it started.
How would you describe your music? The idea was to start as a rapper. Clearly, I was terrible at it. My music has an influence of hip hop background to follow the essence of where I have come from. Hip Hop has been a big influence to my sound.
Beyond making party music, what kind of impact do you want to make on a bigger scale? I want fans and users to identify my music. Always want to create unique mad music which makes it different.
