Run for diabetes

Diabetic Run will be organised from Kurnool Medical College to Kondareddy Burz in the city at 7 am on today to mark World Diabetes Day. Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Dr P Srinivasulu, Head of Endocrinology Department, Government General Hospital, said students of medical college, doctors, medical and health staff would participate in the run aimed to promote awareness about diabetes among people.

A seminar on diabetes would also be held after the end of the run, he said. Expressing concern over increase in incidence of diabetes in the country, he said, ``The out patient ward of the hospital is getting about 600 diabetes patients a week. About 35 per cent of people in the country are suffering from diabetes. The incidence of diabetes among people living in urban areas is more compared to ruralites. There is an urgent need to promote a healthy lifestyle among people to keep diabetes at bay.''
