Hyderabad: Train services, which suffered a major disruption in the south coastal and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh, have returned to normalcy on Thursday.

These disruptions were caused by damages to the railway tracks caused by incessant rains and its aftermath. Vital sections like Gudur-Nellore, Gudur-Renigunta and Renigunta – Gooty were cut off due to bank slips and water overflowing on railway tracks at different places.

Massive restoration works under the direct command of Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, South Central Railway (SCR) were undertaken from the night of November 16 and normal train operations were restored within a record 48 hours. The General Manager, who camped at the work sites, led a team of 1,000 personnel comprising of officials, supervisors and workers,

who worked round the clock to set the wheels in motion again. The restoration works were of prime importance as the rains damaged a railway section, which connects all four corners of the country. Power requirements were met by installing high capacity diesel generators.

SCR officials claim that passenger needs were accorded prime attention as many long distance trains were diverted.
