School roof collapse kills student in Chittoor

A student lost his life and ten others suffered grave injuries when the roof of a private school collapsed in Gurramkonda of Chittoor district. The deceased has been identified as Apsara. While the others have been admitted to the government hospital in Madanapalle, the condition of three is said to be critical.
The police informed that the building was old and with the heavy rains lashing out, the building was further damaged resulting in the collapse. Taking a serious stance on the incident, HRD minister G Srinivas Rao directed the district authorities to initiate a probe and take action against the school authorities for negligence.
A compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the victim has been demanded by the State Child Rights Protection Committee and the Committee president Anuradha Rao asked for the cancellation of the school.
