Tirumala: In yet another initiative to improve pilgrim services, TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao instructed the officials to provide gloves to Srivari Sevakulu deputed at laddu counters for issuing the laddu prasadams to the devotees in a more hygienic manner.

The TTD EO inspected the Potu (temple kitchen) inside the temple; laddu counters in the laddu issuing complex and also Pilgrim Amenities Complex (PAC)-II in Tirumala on Saturday.

Speaking to the media at laddu complex, the EO said that the TTD is very keen in maintaining and implementing proper sanitation and hygienic conditions with the ever floating population in Tirumala. “To avoid spread of contagious diseases, recently, we have commenced serving food in Annaprasadam Complex by the staff and Srivari Sevakulu wearing gloves. Similarly, we implement the same at laddu prasadam distribution counters also. Henceforth, the Srivari Sevakulu and staff in the counters will distribute the laddus to pilgrims wearing gloves,” he added.

Rao said some repair works inside temple kitchen including the fitting of exhaust fans and some minor civil works have been completed. “Even at laddu counters, now pilgrims can take laddus from any counter. For better efficiency and transparency, we have been running eight laddu counters with Srivari Sevakulu. We want these counters to be role model to others. In future, we would like to increase the number to 12 counters,” he added.

Later, he inspected the PAC-II and said all the geysers will be made functional for the sake of the pilgrims in all the rest houses in Tirumala with the advent of winter season.

The EO also interacted with some of the pilgrims in the complex to know about the services being extended in the complex for pilgrims. Superintending Engineer Ramachandra Reddy, Health Officer Shermista, Deputy EO C Ramana, Potu AEO Ashok and others were present.
