Low-lying areas were inundated and several rivulets were in spate in Nellore and Chittoor districts due to fresh spell of rains, triggered by a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu cancelled his Chittoor tour due to the torrential rains.

The incessant rains that have been lashing Chittoor district for the last two days paralysed the normal life. People from the low-lying areas were rehabilitated in Chittoor, Srikalahasthi and Tirupati cities .According to official sources, out of 8063 irrigation tanks, 7205 tanks received heavy inflows. About 120 tanks were breached.

The irrigation department has taken measures to regulate the water storage levels in medium and small projects in the district. Educational institutions remained closed on Wednesday.

District Revenue Officer Vijayachander told The Hans India that no mishap had been reported in the district so far. Road communication was severely hit in Srikalahasthi and Satyavedu constituencies with many streams flowing above the danger level. That the APSRTC cancelled about 150 services in 37 routes mostly in these two constituencies reveals the intensity of the disruption to road communication. While all the bus services to Chennai were terminated.

On the other hand, tanks, rivers and streams in Nellore district are in spate. The Indian Meteorological Department warned that the district would receive heavy rains for the next 24 hours. Train and road connectivity from Nellore to Chennai has been stalled due to overflowing water on the highway and also on railway tracks. There is no connectivity between Gudur and Rapur, Venkatagiri with Swarnamukhi River overflowing.

AP Health Minister Dr Kamineni Srinivas visited Nellore and reviewed the situation with officials and directed them to take necessary measures to support in the flood-prone areas. He said Nellore district had not experienced this much of rainfall during last 50 years. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also interacted with district officials through teleconference.

Prakasam district also witnessed heavy down pour during the last two days. The officials of the Rallapadu reservoir lifted five gates to allow flood water at 11000 cusecs into the Manner reservoir in the down line. The DE of Rallapadu, Srinivas, said that instructions were given to the low-lying villages under Rallapadu and Manner reservoirs to be vigilant to face any sudden flood in the region.
