Tirupati: District Collector Siddarth Jain said on Thursday that the State government has allocated Rs 2 crore to the flood-affected weavers in the district for providing immediate relief. Jain, who visited the villages in Pichatur and Nagalapuram mandals, where considerable families of weavers live, which were worst affected in the latest spell of rains since three days. He said that Rs 3,000 would be provided to each flood-affected weaver as an immediate relief. “Amount would be disbursed immediately to the weavers after the verification by the local Janmabhoomi committee,” he added.

The Collector directed the panchayat, municipal and medical and health authorities to take up required sanitary and upkeep measures as well as fogging and spraying in the rain-hit areas as there is every danger of outbreak of diseases due to the water logging. Jain visited the villages including Siddiraju Kandriga in Pichatur mandal where a stream is flowing above the danger mark and directed the officials to alert the people in and around the villages not to cross the causeway of the stream till it recedes. At the relief camp set up in Sivagiri in the same mandal for the villagers evacuated from the inundated villages, the Collector interacted with staff and villagers to know about supply of food, drinking water and other facilities.

Later, the Collector visited Sri Vedanarayana Swamy temple in Nagalapuram which is marooned in the heavy rain and held a meeting in the tahsildar office. Receiving petition from the people of flood-affected villages, he assured them that relief would be provided to every affected person. He directed the panchayat secretary to take steps for pumping the water from SC, ST and BC colonies which were in knee-deep water. He also visited Vembakam tank and also the submerged fields down the tank, which looked like a huge tank and directed the officials to provided immediate relief under SC, ST sub-plan to the affected. Jain also ordered to provide Rs 2,000 cash a relief and Rs 2,000 for purchase of clothes for the people in the villages which were inundated in the rains. MPDO Rukmini, assistant engineers Sudhakar, Chengalrayulu and other officials were also present.
