New Delhi: Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna hoped that the Union government would keep its word and grant Special Category Status to AP. Addressing media persons here on Thursday he asserted that he had not gone soft on his demand and was as vocal about it as he was in the past.

“There could be any number of reasons for the delay in according the same but the State deserved it and the demand was justifiable,” he stated. The actor turned politician said that he believes in the BJP leadership's integrity and expects it to deliver on its promise.

Taking time off his busy shooting schedule of his forthcoming film ‘Dictator’ at the Capital to make a whirlwind tour of Union Ministries, Balakrishna pressed for demands for developing Hindupur. He was accompanied by TDP MPs' and Special Representative of AP, K Rammohan Rao, he met the Union Ministers, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitaraman, Piyush Goyal, M Venkaiah Naidu and Dr Mahesh Sharma reiterating his wish list submitted to them earlier.

Topping the agenda was the road connectivity of Hindupur with Benguluru via Gauri Bidanuru and via Lepakshi. Hindupur had an added advantage with the Benguluru International Air Port located at a stone's throw away from the town, he pointed out.

“I have submitted the proposals for widening the roads to four to six lanes in my constituency as well for a ring road around Hindupur town. Likewise, the doubling of Gooty-Yelahanka railway line and running of dedicated trains between Hindupur-Benguluru were the major demands of the people of my constituency,” he explained to the Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu.

Seeking a ban on dumping of silk yarn by the Chinese producers in the Indian market he said the silk producers of Hindupur were badly affected by the existing practice. He urged Nirmala Sitaraman to impose higher duty on silk imports to help the local producers. He also appealed to the Centre to help the State Government complete the projects like Handri Niva Sujala Sravanti by sanctioning additional funds.

He said the State government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu was doing its best and AP would prosper soon. The State’s developmental agenda was supported well by the Centre and the two would work together towards achieving this goal. He said he was constantly pursuing his agenda with the Centre and was happy to be present at the capital and meet the Ministers personally.
