Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday launched the ‘She Autos’ in the city and distributed CNG autos to 49 women. The women would ply these autos in the city providing better security for women passengers.

Each auto would cost Rs 1.91 lakh for the women of which 7 per cent is provided by the State government towards subsidy. The beneficiary would have to pay Rs 4,500 a month towards monthly installments for next 40 months and clear the loan. The women were trained by the Road Transport Authority (RTA) in the city which had also issued driving licenses to the beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that his government was committed to women empowerment and had initiated several programmes. The introduction of She Autos in the city, he said women passengers in the new capital would be assured of their safety. He wanted the women auto drivers to work hard and upgrade their families on financial front.

He expressed confidence that the autos would earn around Rs 18,000 a month, which would be of great financial value to the families. The Chief Minister also cautioned them of safety on the roads. He felt that the presence of women drivers on the city roads would bring down the accident rate.

The local MP Kesineni Srinivas, legislator Gadde Ramamohan and the Krishna district Collector Babu Ahmad, the officials of the city police and the RTA were present. Later, the women felicitated the Chief Minister for launching the She Auto programme in the city.
