Minister P Narayana visits flood-hit areas in Naidupet, Sullurpet and Tada mandals

Nellore: Intermittent rains lashed several places in the district on Thursday. Venkatachalam recorded 7 cm rainfall; Kota, Nellore and TP Gudur have received 6 cm rainfall. Officials are releasing floodwater from Swarnamukhi at Vakadu barrage by lifting 24 crest gates. Gangannapalem, Valamedu, Jamin Kothapalem, Pamanji, Tupilipalem, Konduru, Andalamala and Upparapalem villages in Vakadu mandal and some villages in Kota mandal are facing flood threat from floodwaters.

So far, 16 tanks have developed breaches during current spell of heavy rains from November 29. Somasila reservoir is now filled with 68 tmc of water against its full capacity of 78 tmc. Tributaries to Penna like Boggeru and Beeraperu in Atmakur mandal are in spate with huge influx of floodwater. On Thursday too, rail services between Gudur and Chennai have disrupted due to overflowing of water on railway tracks at many places in the district. Many trains have been stopped between Nellore and Gudur and RTC has arranged special services to shift passengers to Chennai city.

Patna-Bangalore Sanghamitra express has been diverted via Renigunta. Municipal Minister P Narayana visited flood prone areas in Naidupet, Sullurpet, and Tada mandals on Thursday along with MLC V Narayana Reddy and other officials. He directed the officials to find a solution for water logging in many villages. The Minister also visited Tallampadu High School in DV Satram mandal and interacted with children. He asked headmaster to send a proposals if additional classes are required for providing coaching to competitive exams.
