Chittoor: Office building of the Rythu Bazaar is in dilapidated condition here due to negligent attitude of officials concerned. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Rythu Bazaar in 2001 with an outlay of Rs 53 lakh.

About 70 shops were allotted to various farmers for selling vegetables. Owing to poor maintenance of shops and office building, farmers have discontinued selling vegetables at the Rythu Bazaar. As a result, consumers stopped visiting the Rythu Bazaar. Now, it wears a deserted look without vegetable sellers and consumers. The main gate of the office building is broken long time back paving free passage for stray animals like monkeys, dogs and pigs to take shelter. One of the doors of the building has broken, roof is leaking and computer is out of order. Even the security personnel were not posted at the office building.

Asked to comment over the prevailing unsafe conditions in his office, Estate Officer Akthar said on Thursday that he has submitted a report to Agricultural Marketing Committee Secretary for initiating immediate renovation works for the office building and shops. Akthar added that an internet facility in the building was discontinued while the telephone and printer are in repair. He said that the farmers are moving to other places like to Chittoor, Bangarupalem, GD Nellore, Yadamari, Gudipala, Penumur, Puthalapattu and Irala mandals to sell their vegetables.

He reiterated that the State government is committed for developing the Rythu Bazaar here for assisting the farmers. He said more than 15,000 consumers from the city used to visit the Rythu Bazaar here every day and used to purchase vegetables from the farmers without involvement of brokers. The Estate Officer said that the State government has been supplying seeds to the farmers at concessional rates at the Rythu Bazaar for the last 15 years.
