AP govt mulls modernising power supply to give boost to industrial sector

Hyderabad: In tune with the objectives of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Energy department is contemplating a five-pronged strategy to provide uninterrupted and best quality power supply without allowing scope for any interruption to the industrial sector, which is the backbone for attracting sizeable investments.

Energy Secretary Ajay Jain said laying of dedicated feeders to industrial consumers, exclusive single desk clearance system at DISCOM level for industrial sector, introducing latest global technologies for ensuring zero interruptions, clearing pending applications in a time-bound manner and taking up energy efficiency measures in the industries for achieving 30 per cent potential with the support of Union government would be discussed in the meeting to be organised with industries soon.

The official said that the Andhra Pradesh for the first time secured second rank after Gujarat in the World Bank’s assessment of State implementation of business reforms with a score of 70.12. The ranking of the World Bank has been discussed in various platforms across the globe and influenced MNCs to firm up their plans to invest in AP, he added. “We are laying a strong foundation for attracting sizeable investments which will also help future generations,” he said.

Government will elicit views of the industrial sector including Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and FAPTIIC on the proposed initiative with regard to providing power supply at global standards, Jain said in a press statement.
