Bhadrachalam: There is an unprecedented drop in the water level of Godavari River at Bhadrachalam causing alarm among farmers. In the month of October itself the water level dropped to the minimum level of 9ft and it even further came down to 7ft by November.

The water flow in the river was nominal due to the deficit rainfall this year. It may be recalled that the water level touched 41ft during June when the river received inflows from catchment areas, according to the officials of Central Water Commission.

Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah deplored that the State government had no foresight to utilise the Godavari water it was available in plenty. The water level has come down due to deficit rainfall, he said adding if the same situation continued there would be severe scarcity for drinking water in the months of January and February.

The state government should immediately prepare an action plan to face the drinking water scarcity in the villages for the next summer. However, the water from the tributaries of Godavari including Kinnerasani, Pamileru, Shabari and others would give some solace to the farmers, the MLA added.
