Nellore rain loss put at `2,300 cr

Nellore: District Collector M Janaki visited flood-affected villages in Dagadarthi and Bogole mandals on Friday and examined Ullapalem canal, kovurupalli canal in the mandal and inspected the damaged bridge due to heavy rains. She expressed anger over the officials on dereliction of duties in supplying relief material to flood victims in Bogole mandal.

The Collector visited Viswanathapuram panchayat office and asked about the rehabilitation measures being taken up for flood victims. Janaki directed the Kavali RDO to distribute Rs 1000 to each family at ST Colony in Viswanathapuram from the salary of Bogole Tahsildar Jayaprakash. The Collector directed the officials to take up sanitation works in the SC, ST colonies after water recedes and also asked them to take proper sanitation measures in other colonies.

She warned to take stern action against officials if they fail to implement relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas. Speaking to media, the Collector said that district suffered an estimated loss of Rs 2,300 crore due to heavy rains. About 57,088 houses were damaged, she said.

Janaki said input subsidy would be provided to farmers after the enumeration process is completed. Kavali RDO Narasimhan, Tahsildars of Dagadarthi and Bogole and other officials were present.
