Eluru: The National SC Commission member P M Kamalamma pointed out that cases of atrocities against SCs were high in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Addressing a press conference at the Zilla Parishad Guest House here on Friday, the National Commission member said that the Commission was registering cases suo motu whenever atrocity cases are reported in the media and directing the officials concerned to take immediate action against the culprits.

Kamalamma said that the National Commission on SCs was taking all necessary steps for the protection of Scheduled Castes in the country. The Commission which is a constitutional body, has been submitting its annual reports to President Pranab Mukherjee. The President will submit the reports to the Parliament for government’s action, she added.

Earlier, reviewing the atrocity cases in the district, she observed that the police were delaying filing the cases in regard to atrocities against SCs.

She reviewed the atrocity cases with Kovvur, Narsapuram, Jangareddigudem and Eluru DSPs and asked about the progress of the pending cases. She asked them to initiate immediate action in the cases and see that the culprits were punished.

She observed that since 2011, some victims did not get the compensation in atrocity cases. She asked police and revenue officials to submit their action taken report (ATR) within a month. She also reviewed the various schemes being implemented for Scheduled Castes and the sub-plan.
