Eluru: hundreds of Anganwadi workers and women staged a dharna in front of West Godavari District Collectorate here on Saturday, demanding that the government strip Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar off Government Whip post for his derogatory remarks against women on November 27.

The Anganwadi workers led by Anganwadi workers and the Helpers Union went on the procession from Old Bus stand to District Collectorate, protesting against the derogatory comments against Anganwadi workers by Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar.

In view of the dharna, heavy police security was arranged near the Collectorate. The police erected barricades to restrain entry of anyone into the Collectorate.

The rally led by Union State unit president Baby Rani reached Collectorate. Hundreds of workers from various places of the district attended the agitation.

CITU State general secretary MA Gafoor, participating as chief guest at the dharna, alleged that the Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, had been provoking peacefully agitating working women who seek the release of GO of enhanced wages. He said Chintamaneni Prabhakar had abused the Anganwadi workers on November 27 when they tried to represent him on their problems. He recalled that earlier the MLA had attacked a woman officer of Krishna district. He criticised that the Chef Minister was encouraging “rowdy elements like the MLA.” He demanded immediate arrest of Prabhakar and to remove him from the post of Whip.

IFTU State president P Prasad said that the Chief Minister was just watching his MLA’s misbehavior without correcting him. He demanded that the CM take action against the “rowdy” MLA.

AITUC district general secretary K Bhima Rao, YSRCP district women wing president P Srilakshmi, POW State leader Ganga Bhavani and AIDWA State president Prabhavathi expressed solidarity to Anganwadi workers. They alleged that the MLA was misbehaving with women. They demanded immediate arrest of MLA and to remove him from the post of Government Whip.

CITU State vice-president V Umamaheswara Rao, West Godavari unit vice-president Ch Baburao, CITU district president K Raja Rama Mohan Roy, general secretary DNVD Prasad, IFTU district general secretary U Venkateswara Rao, AIDWA leaders Ch Rajyalakshmi, D Kalyani, Anganwadi workers secretary P Bharathi addressed the Anganwadi workers.

The workers raised slogans against the MLA and demanded the government to act and take action against him. They also demanded that the government implement the enhanced wages GO immediately. CPM district secretary B Balaram and CPI district secretary Dega Prabhakar also extended their solidarity to the agitation.
