Sanitation drive in 236 villages in EG dist

The East Godavari administration has taken up total sanitation programme in the district on massive scale in all 1,104 villages and 1,016 panchayats in a phased manner. In the present phase, a total 236 villages were identified for implementation and the programme will be completed on or before March 31.
Kakinada: The East Godavari administration has taken up total sanitation programme in the district on massive scale in all 1,104 villages and 1,016 panchayats in a phased manner. In the present phase, a total 236 villages were identified for implementation and the programme will be completed on or before March 31.
The programme in 142 villages is being taken up under Swatch Bharat Mission and the rest of 94 villages under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Programme (MG NREGP).
As part of the implementation, the authorities will take the assistance of women SHGs and NGOs in creating awareness among the masses on the need to maintain cleanliness in surroundings and the village as a unit. The services of elected representatives at village-level, the ward and MPTC members and the village sarpanch will also be utilised as and when the need arises.
The programme at mandal-level will be monitored by MPDOs and the progress of the implementation will be intimated to the district authorities for overall review and for the guidance.
