“The efforts of Home Guards are always held in high regard by the department of Police. They are contributing their services in various aspects of policing for efficient maintenance of law and order in the society,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) LKV Ranga Rao (Kalidas) while addressing a gathering on the occasion of 53rd Home Guards Raising Day celebrations held at Armed Reserved Grounds on Sunday.

Addressing the Khakhi clad Home Guards, the DCP said that the Police Department is incomplete without home guards. In the wake of occurrences of mysterious crime, increasing traffic congestion, VIP movement and large scale events, the role of Home Guards became more significant. Besides law and order, Home Guards have been offering their services to the traffic and crime control wings of the police. More than 14 departments like All India Radio, Sub-Jails, AP Police Housing Corporation, Federal Bank, Central Ware Housing Corporation, District Fire services department and others are utilising the services of HG’s. They are contributing exceptional services in Quick Reaction Teams as well, he said.

Speaking about the financial benefits that were sketched out for them by the government, DCP mentioned that a fund of Rs 5000 would be given towards marriage of their female child, Rs 2000 as educational scholarships to their children who perform meritorious performances. Government decided to extend an exgratia of Rs 20,000 at death due to accidents and Rs 15,000 if natural. About Rs 2000 will be given for cremation. Two kinds of insurance schemes for their health and medical needs, he said.

He appreciated the works of the Home Guards in the Commissionerate who stood up for supporting each other financially and at times of need.
