The Tax Payers Association (TPA) Secretary MV Anjaneyulu has demanded the State Government to withdraw its moves in making Swarajya Maidhan a high security zone considering the interests of the denizens.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Anjaneyulu said that from many decades Swarajya Maidan has been the center for political, literary, cultural events and also aplay ground for the youth. National Companies have also utilized the place to introduce their brands to the denizens.

He wondered why the State Government was keen on developing a park at Swarajya Maidhan, instead it should focus on developing 126 parks under VMC, which are in a bad shape. The TPA secretary reiterated that Vijayawada after being designated as part of the capital region is turning like a concrete jungle.

The denizens were already finding it hard with lack of adequate open space for children to play and elders to walk around. He demanded the State Government to roll back its proposal of converting the ground in to park as there would be hardly any open space left for industrial exhibitions. The TPA President V Sambi Reddy and joint secretary V Srinivas were also present at the news conference.
