Pattisam (West Godavari): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stated that the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme is ahead of schedule and will be completed by March 29, 2016. Inspecting the works, the CM said that 74 per cent of works worth Rs 912 crore have been completed.

He reiterated that crop in eight lakh acre in Krishna delta worth Rs 2,400 crore was saved due to the release of water from Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme this season.

Addressing farmers at delivery point of the irrigation scheme at Itukula Kota in West Godavari on Tuesday, the CM gave a brief report on the progress of works. “Fourteen pumps out of 24 have reached the site and five pumps have been commissioned. Twelve out of 24 motors have also reached the site and we have laid 43 km pipeline out of 47 km. Apart from this 30 km-long 222KV/11 power line has been laid,” he said.

Stating that 4.172 tmc ft of water has been drawn from Pattiseema from five pumps, Naidu said that there is scope of drawing about 90 tmc ft of water from the scheme in one season. “200 engineers, 300 technical personnel and 700 non-technical staff are working round the clock to meet the deadline. Water from rivulets like Tammileru, Yerra kaluva and Ramileru is also joing the Polavaram Right Main Canal along with Godavari water,” he added.

The CM informed that only 138 TMC ft of water out of 1,611 TMC ft has been utilized from Godavari this year. “Nagavali - Vamsadhara and Krishna - Penna Rivers will be linked,” he asserted. Stressing the need for the water conservation, he called upon the farmers to make use of NREGS scheme for farm ponds, contour trenches check dams and for de-siltation.

Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and Peethala Sujatha, Eluru MP Maganti Babu and other MLAs were present on the occasion.
