Chennai City ‘suffered” very heavy rainfall, breaking the century old record of seasonal North East monsoon, this year. The residents of the capital city of Tamil Nadu have experienced “cloud burst”, which they have never seen, in their life time.

The continuous downpour of rain, since Deepavali, resulted in heavy flooding of the entire city and its suburban areas, making it appear as if the Bay of Bengal has taken the sky route to plunge the entire city and the State in deluge. The records of the Meteorological Dept and the State and Central Governments vouch that this is the worst devastation in history, caused by rain, in any city.
The livelihood of the people of Chennai has been worst affected; the Govt of Tamil Nadu and voluntary organizations are taking effective steps to feed the suffering masses with essential supply of food, water, clothing and shelter.

The Sathya Sai Seva Organisations of Tamil Nadu has initiated effective measures to alleviate the suffering. Round the clock activities are on with various organizational units actively working, based out of "Sundaram", the head quarter of Sathya Sai Seva Organisations at R.A. Puram, Chennai. Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, the apex body founded by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, has already sent a truck load of materials from Prasanthi Nilayam, which include Rice, Sarees, Dhoties and Blankets. These materials will be taken for distribution to the suffering masses, as identified by the Organisations.
Eswaramma Women’s Welfare Trust, another organization initiated by Bhagawan towards the wellness of women and children, also has joined hands in distributing Sarees and Blankets to distressed women in flood affected Chennai.
