Chittoor: Of late, the concept of book buying is seems to be on the wane. The GenNext has been using internet to get information. Right now, internet has become a powerful tool. Notably, purchasing books has become rare particularly in Telugu speaking States, according to survey reports. In this backdrop, there are certain publishing houses like Visalandhra and Saitheja, which are conducting book exhibitions and selling their publications at concessional prices. The Saitheja publication has opened a mega book exhibition in Chittoor near Gandhi statue with an ambition of selling their publications at concessional prices.

Saitheja Publications put up over 1.5 lakh books consisting of 3,000 titles which is said to be a record in book exhibitions. It’s target is to sell 20 per cent books at least during the exhibition. There are thousands of books arranged beautifully in the tracks to draw the attention of the book lovers. The organisers of the mega book exhibition have taken pain to transport the books from Vijayawada to Chittoor and giving 20 per cent discount on each book.

In the past three days, the response from the public was poor. The organisers are said to be frustrated for low sale of books in the exhibition. It wore a deserted look as the readers fail to turn up.

Speaking to The Hans India, Venkata Ramana , manager of mega book exhibition, admitted that the purpose of organising the book exhibition has been defeated due to sluggish attention from the readers in the town.

“We have put up over 3,000 books in Telugu, English, Hindu and Sanskrit. Our mission is to sell more books. Saitheja Publication has invested a huge amount on the books by procuring them from different publication centres across the State”, he said.

He decried that the response from the readers for purchasing the books is deplorable. He feared that no publication company would dare to hold such an exhibition in future keeping in view the lukewarm response the expo was getting from the readers.
