Drought hits market cess collection

Kurnool: The prevailing drought conditions in the district have affected the revenue of Agricultural Marketing Department. It has so far collected Rs 25.91 crore towards market cess from the 12 agricultural market yards in the district against the target of Rs 48.09 crore for the current fiscal.

Assistant Director of Marketing P Satyanarayana Choudary told newsmen here on Friday that there was a marked decline in the collection of market cess this year due to crop failure in kharif. The steep fall in the output of paddy, cotton, groundnut, maize and other crops had an adverse effect on the revenue earnings of the marketing department, he said.
